Most of the public and the well wishers, including student community in Yanam have been continuously demanding for the introduction of Diploma courses and some of the parents in Yanam were unable to admit their children in the above courses who come under Below Poverty line. This was established with a view to impart technical education to the students of Yanam, to challenge the increasingly complex change of society and to provide employment opportunities.
In view of public interest, the Government of Puducherry has established Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Polytechnic College in the academic year 1996-97, which is one among the five Polytechnic colleges in Puducherry state sponsored by the Government of Puducherry under administrative jurisdiction of Pondicherry Institute of Post Matric Technical Education (PIPMATE) governed by a General Body under the Chairmanship of Secretary for Education, Government of Puducherry and Director/ Member Secretary, Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Puducherry. Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Polytechnic College was established with two diploma courses (1) Electronics and Communication Engineering and (2) Computer Engineering approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi (AICTE) and affiliation with Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai (DoTE) with an intake of 30 students in each branch.
The Polytechnic is beautifully located in the centre of Yanam town occupying 5 Acres and the campus in elegantly designed by architects and fully equipped with all infrastructural facilities including a play ground and a beautiful garden as to the needs of the students with the good support of qualified and experienced faculty members.
Special Features
We offer students extra ordinary access to leading – edge opportunities for intellectual and leadership development to address the challenging society and special mention needs to be made about the NBA. The existing branch of Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering with a student body of about 30 has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi for a period of three academic years ie., 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 (upto 30.06.2021). And this institution stands first to obtain NBA accreditation among other Polytechnic colleges in Puducherry state.
Among the Five Polytechnic colleges of Puducherry, this college was awarded “ The Best College ” for the year 2017 by the Academic Administrative Audit (AAA), constituted by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Puducherry.
Two students namely Mr. K. Sreeram and P. Kishore Kumar of III year Diploma in ECE branch secured First position in “A National Level Technical Symposium POLYMECT 2018 ”duly organized by PSG Polytechnic College, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in February 2018 among the participants from nearly 600 Polytechnic colleges. On the academic front, the college is improving its performance year after year. Many of the final year students passed out got admission for B-Tech/B.E courses in various Engineering colleges both in Puducherry and neighbouring states of Yanam.
Campus interviews were conducted and as many as 22 nos. of diploma passed out students of this college were recruited by different firms viz., M/s. Whirlpool India Pvt. Ltd., Puducherry and M/s. Synra technologies, Chennai in the month of June and August,2018 respectively Also a Society M/s. Surabhi Educational Society, No.86, Hitech City, Madhapur, Hyderabad conducted “Suryamitra” IOM Professional Training Programme on solar panel installation and storage and nearly 30 passed out diploma students from our college participated in the training programme which was held for a period of three months during March to May,2017.
The Department of Agriculture, Yanam selected Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Polytechnic College, yanam for the best maintenance of Garden in this college campus and awarded First Prize on the occasion of 19th Flower show and 16th Yanam Festival in the month of Jaunary, 2018 and the same was received from Thiru Malladi Krishna Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Health and Tourism, Puducherry.
